Goals
Language policy at the University of the Balearic Islands is governed by the institution's Language Use Regulations and Language Plan. The UIB's main goals in this area are:
- Promoting Catalan across all university areas
- Promoting multilingualism amongst the university community
- Welcoming overseas students visiting the UIB.
Multilingualism
The University of the Balearic Islands aims to promote individual language learning and multilingualism across different university areas, with a particular focus on English given its status as a lingua franca for international scientific communication.
In light of this, the UIB makes different resources available to the entire university community to foster foreign language learning, particularly English.

Language Promotion
Language promotion activities are geared towards attaining the following goals:
- Promoting Catalan amongst the university community
- Fostering scientific research and outreach in Catalan
- Fostering teaching in Catalan and other languages
- Writing technical reports and studies about language issues for other institutions
- Collaborating with other Catalan-speaking institutions
- Promoting multilingual exchanges with other universities
- Enhancing the use of Catalan in international language forums
- Producing resources to promote Balearic language and culture.
